Global Travel Awards Announced
SATW President Jane Wooldridge announced the creation of the Global Travel Awards (#GTMAawards) at TravMedia’s International Media Marketplace luncheon in New York. The prestigious awards will be presented by the Global Travel Media Allliance, comprised of SATW, the Australian Society of Travel Writers (ASTW) and the British Guild of Travel Writers (BGTW) starting in 2020.
The alliance will present three awards, based on 2019 work: 2020 Global Travel Writer, 2020 Global Travel Photographer, and 2020 Global Travel Communicator. Submissions are open only to members of SATW, ASTW and BGTW. Prizes include: a five-night stay at Raffles in Singapore for the winning writer, courtesy of Accor; a 15-day Arctic cruise courtesy of Abercrombie & Kent for the photographer, and a $5,000 Apple gift card for the PR professional, courtesy of TravMedia. The announcements were made during TravMedia’s IMM, where SATW presented the keynote editorial panel on sustainable tourism. Wednesday, we presented two editorial panels at TravMedia’s US Summit, thanks to Elizabeth Harryman and Miriam Weiner. SATW is also presenting three content panels on media at the trade day of the New York Times Travel Show, thanks to Lillian Africano.
SATW past Presidents Barbara Orr and David Swanson have been instrumental with their work on the Global Travel Media Alliance and the Global Travel Awards to help bring an international spotlight to the top writers, photographers and PR professionals in the travel industry.
