TOP 2013 TRAVEL TRENDS? FIND OUT WHAT EXPERTS FROM THE SOCIETY OF AMERICAN TRAVEL WRITERS SAY AT THE NEW YORK TIMES TRAVEL SHOW

Predictions are already being made for travel trends in 2013, and the top insights and topics of interest will be shared and analyzed at this year’s New York Times Travel Show (January 18 to 20).  Members of the Society of American Travel Writers, “Travel’s Most Trusted Voices,” will once again be featured on several panels alongside key industry leaders.

SATW President Lillian Africano, a resident of Deal, NJ, will moderate the panels, where attendees can hear directly from travel editors, bloggers and the media as they highlight travel trends and other important topics:

 • Focus on Travel Media (January 18): As it has done for the past several years, SATW has produced a full morning of presentations by leading digital experts who will address how social and interactive platforms are transforming how consumers think about travel and make purchasing decisions.  Attendees on this Trade Day will learn how writers, destinations and travel trade alike can harness the power of social media to reach travelers and increase sales.  Speakers will include Lillian Africano; Sree Sreenivasan, Chief Digital Officer of Columbia University; Adam Pitluk, Editorial Director for all American Airlines inflights; Grant Martin, Editor-in-Chief, Gadling.com; and Brenda Sprague, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Passport Services, Bureau of Consular Affairs for the U.S. Department of State.

• Travel Bloggers Panel (January 19): Hear directly from travel editors, bloggers and the media as they highlight travel trends and what they found on the show floor.  The panel will be moderated by Lillian Africano, and panelists include Don George, National Geographic; Liz Borod Wright, Travelogged.com; Ed Wetschler, Recommend; Matthew Kepnes, Nomadic Matt; and Laura Bly, travel reporter, blogger and photographer at USA TODAY.

SATW members will also give presentations on other topics, including Reid Bramblett (Internet Research: Stretching Your Travel Dollar), Johnny Jet (Tips for Traveling Better, Cheaper and Smarter), Mike Luongo (What’s New in LGBT Travel), and Marybeth Bond and Lea Lane (Global Travel Tips for Women).
